Big Hair Parade Children's Book

A self-published children's picture book celebrating all kinds of people, of all kinds of colour and of course all kinds of hair! Written by Diana Muendo, illustrated by Abby Hobbs.

I worked on this book with Diana over the first lockdown in 2020 and it was self-published on Amazon and with limited edition hardback books on the August bank holiday weekend. We had such a brilliant time working on this together that we can't seem to stop talking about it! I have been a guest on Diana's cohosted podcast talking about the book, we've done a virtual YouTube reading and Q&A for World Book Day 2021. The pictures and letters we have received have been the best part of all, and I've included a number of them below too. We are working on a colouring book at the moment to go with the Big Hair Parade, and you can download a free colouring sheet of the main characters from the Colouring in section of my website!

Diana and I have also done a number of school readings via Zoom which have been the loveliest part of the whole project. A number of the year 1 and 2 classes we've read to had worked on the book as a literacy unit beforehand so the questions we are asked by them are so in depth and astute! If you would like to arrange a reading for your school you can contact us here.

Buy the book on Amazon here, or a limited edition hardback book here.

The Big Hair Parade is a children's picture book about afro hair and addressing the universal girl's struggle with feeling good about the way we look with what hair we have. It is a celebration of Hair and the different superpower of all hair types - encouraging little girls everywhere, especially girls of colour, to embrace and celebrate their unique hairstyle and ultimately to love themselves!
